Technology can definitely fail you
Have you ever thought what it would be like without cellular phones, computers, laptops, tablets, PlayStation's, robot's and all other technology products just like it use to be in the old days. The good old days! This is just my opinion and just my taking on things, but i really do think that life, when i was growing up was much easier, better and absolutely much more fun that today. This may take many of you back in time, and i am sure you will feel all good and warm inside. When i was growing up there were no such things as laying around home all day playing games, or having a cellphone and using it constantly even in company (which in my opinion is totally and utterly rude). I was brought up to play outside, play in the mud, build a fort, play with the dogs, ride bicycle, rollerblade whatever we could do to burn time. I'm sure we did it all. I will name a few:1. I can recall one instance where we build a ramp with bricks and a old piece of wood, off course we tried to go over it on Rollerblades with little success need I say. Lesson learned the very hard way never try doing stunts on Rollerblades when you have absolutely no idea what you are doing, it leads to blood and scars. At the moment it hurt, afterwards it was just absolutely funny. I can also recall my first pair of Rollerblades had two wheels in front and two wheels in back, and just like with everything else in life practise made perfect and before i knew it i got my first pair of "big" rollerblades, 4 wheels in a line. At that stage in time to get a pair of Rollerblades was like getting a cellphone today.
2. I am almost certain most of you use to cut furniture, televisions etc out of newspapers and build your own house with it (I personally hoped that one day i would live in a house like the paper ones we built, and now... well now I just live in a house... a small house. ha ha ha). 3. A legendary game - which I am sure there are still some people going at it today but it has definately died down (I am glad now that I am older). When i was younger we did this on a daily basis. We use to ring bells or knock on doors and run double time, we knew if we got caught our parents would most likely kill us... or would they? One instance we actually got caught... boy oh boy, were we in trouble and just to prove a point we went back the very next day and destroyed the "very friendly" old ladies roses. She suspected us, but the evidence was never there.
4. We use to build our own swing hanging of the roof or of a tree branch (which, well lets just say if you don't make sure that that branch is thick enough you are bound to end up on you ass), we were even crazy enough to climb on the roof, tie a rope to whatever looked strong enough then jumped off the roof with the rope around us into the swimming pool (which quite conveniently was empty - off course not if the rope had to snap. I am almost certain that would hurt... A LOT!
5. Our cellphones in the good old days were tin phones and let me tell you we just couldn't get enough of that. I can actually still remember my dad had a Nokia... I personally thought it was a brick but who was I as a small, innocent kid to argue with an adult? Only recently I discovered it really was a cellphone. Technology has improved so much that you can now have a phone the size of a watch. With the pace at which cellphones are being released its hard to keep up. Recently the Blackberry Z10 was released and everyone wanted it (I wont lie I still want it) at a ridiculous price and not long thereafter the Q10 is released and now everyone wants it at another ridiculous price. Does it ever stop? Where will it end? I remember my first cellphone was a silver metallic phone, it had a blue screen and I absolutely loved it. In my opinion that was the best cellphone ever (it had a blue screen, no camera, no radio, nothing fancy but it was awesome) and it didn't even cost may father more than a hundred rand at that time. My mother wasn't supposed to know that I got a cellphone so I had to hide it away from her, my goodness... have you any idea how hard it i to hide your first cellphone? I use to lay under the blankets when everyone was asleep (or so i thought seeing that we had to sleep in one room) and play with my "stylish" new phone. Let me tell you, parents aren't as dumb as they look my mother knew. I just never understood why she didn't mention anything?
6. Photos... photos... photos. In the old days a photo was a photo, nothing more and nothing less. My first camera was a waterproof camera that I took to Durban with me when my absolutely awesome gran (who unfortunately now passed) took me and my absolutely awesome cousin (who is still alive ha ha). In those days we thought it was expensive to buy a film, pfff try not only buying a film today but try finding a film camera. No edits could be made to photos, everything were as you saw it. Pretty girls didn't become prettier and ugly girls didn't become miraculously prettier. It took hours for a photo lab to create the photos and we always got those freaky negatives with (I dont know why, I just never like those negatives). Once again, a photo was a photo, not today anymore. Today photos can be printed within a matter of minutes without any real effort. Photos can be edited to the extend where you can not distinguish the difference between real and false, and that in my opinion is jut plain down annoying as hell!
7. My first computer oh my goodness it took four people to carry that thing in to the house (nah no not really I'm sure three could do it ha ha). It was something called MS-DOS which had a total of like twelve programs if I can recall it correctly. A horrible black screen staring you in the eyes with such horrible graphics. I wont lie though it had pretty cool games, such as the Hot Rods game. Today you can carry your whole computer in a backpack. We have lived through Windows 1, 2, 3, 95, 98, ME, XP, VISTA, WINDOWS 7 and now we are on windows 8. Just as in cellular phones the technology improves daily and the market is very competitive.
8. The Internet - the biggest evil, it is actually very sad to see that you can now do grocery shopping from your computer, what experiences will your children have one day if everything is done from home and delivered to your door? I still remember my best time as a kid was doing grocery shopping with my parents (except for the fighting, and broom fights). Grocery shopping was the one day I looked forward to the whole month. We would always go to Shoprite Checkers, then to the sweet factory and finally I would get a gift and then we would go home. Those were the days that made memories (not all good though, but most). What memories will your children and children's children one day have if you don't even have to step outside your house anymore? Then I wont even get started on the unlimited content that the world wide web has to offer you as it will be endless.. theft, pornography, scandalising etc. It is ridiculous.
Technology makes life easier for most of people, but what if it fails you? I can personally talk about a problem I encountered with an Internet provider, the service was off more that it was on and they still expected us to pay the full amount each and every month. At one stage we were cut of for 11 days, have you any idea how much business you can lose in 11 days, and only because you became dependant on technology. Have you not realised the increase in fraud and theft, identity thievery and so much more due to technology. People has been made to believe that this world that we live in now is the perfect world, let me tell you its far from it. I would go back any time and live with minimum technology than to wait for machines to take over our world. Technology causes people to lose their jobs. Where will it all end? I mean really they are talking about flying cars. can you imagine what the world will be like a few years from now if technology carries on at the pace it is currently going? Each day more and more people losses jobs, technology fails you, things goes wrong. Technology... technology... technology!
Does people not realise how technology is ruining humanity. When i was younger we would find friends, make friends and play with friends. We would make our own band from empty coffee tins and empty ice cream tubs, we would play hide and seek, touchers, anything possibly fun. Today's children are really caught up in technology. Some kids have their own cellphone, laptop and tablet at age 5. Kids who grows up without technology are really still kids. Kids who grows up with technology, that has no limits or boundaries doesn't even want to make any new friends and would rather sit and sulk because they forgot their laptop at home then to run around, play and have fun like normal kids. This is scary. People are blind to what is happening around them, people are blind to technology. People are just blind to the obvious and people are blind about about their own blindness.
